This exhibition marks 30 years since Eduardo Nery was invited by the Macau Government to create a mural for the passenger terminal at Macau International Airport, an artwork commissioned by CAM – Sociedade do Aeroporto Internacional de Macau, SARL, in 1994, to enhance the airport’s public space.

The large tile panel covers the entire front of the departure lounge mezzanine, measuring 210 meters long and 2.10 meters high and was completed was completed and unveiled during the official opening of Macau Airport in December 1995.

The themes depicted include Portuguese and Chinese religions and myths, the historical significance of the sea in connecting Portugal and Macau, nautical science, aviation in Macau, and aspects of Portuguese culture from the 16th and 17th centuries. These motifs were meticulously drawn based on old, authentic images that Nery simplified and reinterpreted for the mural.

The exhibition is a tribute to the artistic work of Eduardo Nery, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his iconic artwork at Macau Airport. The exhibition will delve into Nery’s creative process, offering a unique insight into the conception and realisation of the memorable tile panel that has become a symbol of the Macau Airport.
