Abstract
Information technology is one of the sectors with highest job mobility in Macao.
Since it is difficult to hire and retain local IT professionals, it is important for
employers to know how to retain their IT professional employees. As such this
study aimed at comparing the relative importance of job retention factors for IT
professionals in Macau. A theoretical framework was developed from extant
literature, and survey data was collected from 93 professionals in Macau. The
findings indicate that compensation and career development opportunities are
the most important job retention factors. Implications for management and
research are also discussed.
