Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine what the employee satisfaction level is in a Chinese Listed Public Company in China. This research study was undertaken in Zhuhai Zhongfu Enterprise Co., Ltd. which represents a typical Chinese company and is in the process of adopting more of a Western style of management. The result of the study would be an example for many companies in China which are in similar stage of development.
We invited 1709 participants out of 7000 employees to participate and received 458 responses. This number of responses was less than expected, but statistically was very good. The survey gathered data about job satisfaction and the following seven factors of employee satisfaction: extrinsic rewards, reward fairness, supervisory support, autonomy, affinity, employee development and corporate image. The survey also included an open question for employees to express personal views. The statistical results indicated that the overall of employee satisfaction is low and all seven factors related to this dissatisfaction. Furthermore, the verbal comments of the employees provide rich information about the employee climate, and in particular they indicated the existence of a strong negative view regarding extrinsic rewards and employee development. These comments are a valuable feedback and very beneficial to understand and plan how to improve the employee satisfaction level in the company,
The report concludes that the company is facing a challenge in Human Resource Management. The management team needs take action to restructure the HR system for the company’s sustainable development. It is hoped that this study will be useful to help the company to improve some of its management practices and processes and be an incentive for doing further research in the company.
