Abstract
In addition to the casino industry, the remaining industries are only superficial and do not really belong to the core economy of Macau. Other ventures are only viable by the support of the main industry, such as restaurants and retail, most of them are foreign brands. In the global integration, the external economic environment is affecting Macau catering and food culture and the local restaurants are being replaced by other foreign restaurants, such as Japanese or Thai restaurants. In addition, Macau is facing a brain drain problem, which does not favor a good socio-economical environment for innovation and the introduction of new ventures.
Macau SAR government is committed to support the economy diversification, but unless it addresses these core issues through suitable strategies and policies, the opportunity for a fruitful context for investment might slip away.
This study will discuss the development of Macau resistance, and the strategies of Macau SAR government for reform and innovation, may lead to an environment
where new ventures can arise and contribute to diversify the economy.
