Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to explore different respondents' perspectives on aging and quality of life, as well as their experiences and processes of residential care. It also analyzed the experiences and challenges of transitioning to or considering residential care, and gathered their perspectives and suggestions on policy.
Method: This study employed educational phenomenology and open-ended interviews. Purposeful sampling was used to select 15 respondents, including 5 potential caregivers/residents, 5 with family members admitted to residential care, and 5 who were admitted themselves.
Results: The study found that respondents viewed "aging in place" as a life free from illness, pain, and worry. Residential care was often considered a last resort, with common reasons including: changes in health status that made it difficult for families to provide adequate care; insufficient family care resources; and living environment limitations. Reasons for elderly residents to enter residential care included a desire to avoid burdening their families, complying with family wishes, and health conditions requiring professional care.

目的:本研究旨在探討不同受訪者對安老及生活品質的看法,以及對院舍照顧的經驗和過程,分析入住或考慮入住院舍的經驗和適應挑戰,並且收集不同受訪者對政策的看法和建議。 方法:是次的研究以教育現象學及開放式的方式進行訪談。並以立意抽樣的方式抽取15名受訪者,其中5名為潛在照顧者/入住者,5名有家人入住院舍,5名自身入住院舍。 結果:研究發現受訪者覺得「安老」是無病無痛,無憂無慮;入住院舍多被視為最後的選擇,常見家庭原因包括:健康狀況變化,家庭難以提供合適照顧;家庭照顧資源不足;居住環境限制;長者入住院舍的原因包括:不願成為家人負擔、順從家人意願、健康狀況需專業照顧。
