Abstract
With the rise of digital technology and the popularity of social media platforms, Facebook has assumed a significant role in the dissemination of journalistic content, engaging with diverse audiences and enabling swift information distribution across digital channels. This study aims to investigate Macau’s news sector’s digital strategy and the reason for using Facebook as one of the primary digital channels to disseminate news content. This research will use a questionnaire survey to gather the points of view of Macau residents and examine the role of Facebook as a major digital platform for accessing news content. Furthermore, the study will interview news practitioners to explore the challenges, impact and opportunities that arise with the use of Facebook, and how Facebook influences Macau’s digital news ecosystem. Additionally, the research will explore the ethical challenges that come along with Facebook usage, considering issues such as algorithmic biases and the spread of misinformation.
