Date Issued

Abstract
The fishing industry has been thriving in Macao for hundreds of years. It has made an important contribution to local economy since the 19th century. However, the fishing industry has been declining and the number of fishermen has been decreasing. It would be an economic, cultural and historical tragedy for our local communities if it disappears. The fishermen deserve support and it is time to actually take action to nurture our fishing industry. It is hoped that this study will catch the attention of policymakers, industry representatives and society to pursue a sustainable development of Macao fishery.
