The demand for parking spaces for vehicles has also reached its highest. As known by all, parking spaces in Macau are particularly insufficient, let alone the rather old-aged and traditional parking system on the street, which does not catch up with the needs of the local people. Despite the fact that the meter has been upgraded to a digital operation, the recent system in use does not fit the economical need of time and space. In order to release the pressure and increase the living quality of Macau residents, it is necessary to design a new system that revolves to meet the needs of the new era. This study aims to design an advanced digital parking system that is tailor-made for the road users of Macau by drawing references from nearby cities. The system should be able to connect and comply with a phone application and hopefully, a real-time situation can be reflected. The burden of having to physically put money into the meter is released from the users, meanwhile, the system can also play a role of restriction, monitoring the time users occupy the parking spaces. Since designing and creating a digital parking system requires a significant number of perspectives from the end-users, a quantitative descriptive research approach would be used in order to obtain accurate, valid, and reliable data, hence a survey will be conducted with the larger population of road users in Macau, in order to draw useful data to create the most suitable digital parking system for the city. After collecting and analyzing the data, a solution will be proposed and then a design of the interface and the functions within the new digital parking system will be carried out. The design of the digital parking system shall serve as a reference to the road users and the government body as part of the movement of transforming Macau into a smart transportation hub.enUniversity of Saint JosephThesis and Dissertations Master of Design (MDG)smart citysmart transportationMacau traffic problemdigital parking systemPark-meter: Designing an Innovative Macau SystemMaster Thesis
