In 2011 more than 28 million travelers visited Macau. Travelers come to Macau for the excitement in casinos, for the fine dining and luxurious shopping and some others for the cultural activities and world heritage sites. Tourism and casinos have also attracted to Macau international investment and business travelers. With an international airport, convenient transit via Hong Kong by sea, and land route network linked to mainland China, Macau is linked to most parts of the world. Welcoming travelers with hospitality and handling their luggage with efficiency are important to the tourism industry and overall economy of Macau. I understand the needs of travelers because I need to take business trips frequently. It is important to have documents well organized and equipments fully prepared to ensure completing business missions efficiently and effectively during the intense itinerary. On the other hand, due to national security concern, airlines are enforcing more restrictions on luggage. These factors combined makes packing the luggage a challenge. In personal aspect, I have great passion for traveling. Every journey is an adventure that refreshes my thoughts and stimulates my creativity. Whether traveling for pleasure or for work, having a well designed luggage is very useful to make my travelling convenient and productive, and allow me to experience the journey fully. Despite the variety of luggage available in the market, finding a luggage that combines tasteful look, good functional design, and innovative features is not easy at all. Being a design enthusiast, I am ambitious to showcase Macau designs to the world market. I want to design a product that helps to resolve everyday life challenges. Based on my personal experience, extensive observation and focused research, I was inspired to design a luggage that can both fulfill modern business travelers’ needs and exceed their expectations with intelligent features. It is hoped that international travelers will buy from Macau this luggage designed by me and made in Macau and promote to the world that Macau not only is famous for casinos and world heritage, but also is a cradle for young talented designers. Belgagem is my design of luggage for elite business travelers. The design has taken into consideration passengers’ needs and preference as well as constraints imposed by airlines. This design levels with global luggage brands with the carefully considered utilitarian features to meet travel-oriented needs. On the other hand this design differentiates from luggage in the market by smart features ensuring convenience and security by automating check-in, luggage check, boarding check and luggage reclaim. The luggage is also equipped to allow interactive information exchange that allows service providers to enhance their service level. Smart packing feature can save travelers the trouble and extra cost of overloading luggage.
