The Tang retained traditions from the Qin and Han dynasties while interlacing the cultures of the East and the West, creating an era of prosperity unlike any other dynasty in history. Paintings thrived as an art form during the Tang dynasty, giving rise to innumerable renowned painters such as Wu Daozi, Yan Liben, Zhang Xuan, and Zhou Fang. Mural painting was one of the important forms of artistic expression during this period. Tang dynasty mural paintings have survived over a thousand years thanks to the excavation and preservation efforts of archaeologists and cultural heritage conservators in Shaanxi since the mid-20th century. They have now re-entered our world, giving us to glimpse the vibrant life of the Tang people. The days of youth create the most wondrous self-seeking journey.
