Publication A cognitive semantic study of biblical Hebrew: the root slm for completeness-balance(Brill, 2021)Leong, Andrew Chin Hei"Semantic studies of the Biblical Hebrew verb "whole" have been influenced by those of its most invoked nominal form "whole". In this volume Andrew Chin Hei Leong shows that the concepts of balance, alliance, and completeness form the basic semantic structure of "whole". Previous studies on "whole" employed either historical or textual methodology, which has been dominant in biblical lexical studies. In addition to these methods, in Leong develops a systematic semantic methodology from Cognitive Semantics and Frame Semantics, to demonstrate that it is balance, rather than completeness, that is the most central concept in holding the semantic network together"--1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication A Comparative Study of Sympathy in David Hume, Karuna in Buddhism, and Ren in Confucianism(University of Saint Joseph, 2021) ;Chon, Iao PangAlabanza, Ian Shelley Sasha PugalEmpathy is a capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference. It means stepping into somebody’s shoes. The meaning of sympathy in David Hume is equal to empathy in academic study. In Eastern philosophy there are two terms, which are highly similar to empathy in the Western perspective: karuna in Buddhism and ren in Confucianism. Karuna is a core emotional state in Bodhisattva to express empathy. Ren is a core concept in Confucianism. It starts with Ce yin zi xin, which is similar to empathy. The goal of his thesis is to share the common ground of these terms and find out their differences according to historical context, cognition, emotion, and action dimensions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication A Psychological and Phenomenological Analysis of Chinese People Who Are Not-Capable-Of-Saying-No(University of Saint Joseph, 2022) ;Song, Sok FongGassner, FranzStressed not-capable-of-saying-no (NCSN) people have increased in China and have drawn the attention of researchers and societies within the last few decades. However, this topic is generally discussed in different separated disciplines without deeper and fruitful communication and interconnections. This thesis aims to provide an interdisciplinary and intercultural study by focusing on analyzing the actual Chinese NCSN phenomenon from different disciplines and dimensions compared with related western psychological research. The following results make the thesis significant: 1). The Chinese concept of “老好人” is not equal to the English (“Western") one of being a “People-Pleaser”; 2). A broader view on intentional reasoning of actual Chinese NCSN behavior is uncovered; 3). The Chinese NCSN phenomenon can be interpreted from three different perspectives; 4). No matter what kind of problems NCSN Chinese might have, the proper understanding and recognition of the "self" is the overlapping core advice and task ahead for all NCSN Chinese. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Bioethics : ethics of lifeThat promoting of human life is the root of Bioethics is best emphasized in this most welcome publication by Father Fausto B. Gomez, OP. In medical school, emphasis is made on teaching of diagnosis and treatment of diseases. An important consideration should always be to put the teaching of Bioethics in our decision-making. Ethical appreciation is part of being a good doctor. Advances in medical technology seem to be moving so rapidly that we need to catch up with its bioethical consequences. We need to be guided on topics relevant to present day practice in medicine. This book can truly serve as a ready reference for busy healthcare providers. --- Esperanza “Ching” F. Publication Classical theism and Buddhism: connecting metaphysical and ethical systems(Bloomsbury Academic, 2022) ;McNabb, Tyler DaltonBaldwin, Erik Daniel"As an atheistic religious tradition, Buddhism conventionally stands in opposition to Christianity, and any bridge between them is considered to be riddled with contradictory beliefs on God the creator, salvific power and the afterlife. But what if a Buddhist could also be a Classical Theist? Showing how the various contradictions are not as fundamental as commonly thought, Tyler Dalton McNabb and Erik Baldwin challenge existing assumptions and argue that Classical Theism is, in fact, compatible with Buddhism. They draw parallels between the metaphysical doctrines of both traditions, synthesize their ethical and soteriological commitments and demonstrate that the Theist can interpret the Buddhist's religious experiences, specifically those of emptiness, as veridical, without denying any core doctrine of Classical Theism. By establishing that a synthesis of the two traditions is plausible, this book provides a bold, fresh perspective on the philosophy of religion and reinvigorates philosophical debates between Buddhism and Christianity".2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
