Abstract
The notion of value-creating education (VCE) is emerging within educational discourses internationally. An increasing number of teachers are applying the principles of VCE within diverse educational contexts. This has led to an exploration into the needs of professional teachers in the implementation of VCE. It has also revealed teachers’ perspectives on their challenges and accomplishments in the implementation of VCE. This chapter does not intend to compare different teachers. Rather, it provides sufficient data to explore this topic in depth. It draws on wider research-based studies that aim to identify the key professional needs of teachers implementing VCE in the context of early childhood education. The findings indicate that there are professional development needs for teachers to develop deeper insights and a more holistic understanding of VCE (e.g., the true meaning of children’s happiness, a belief in the unlimited potential of children) and a need for greater self-awareness and reflexivity on behalf of educators. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Emiliano Bosio and Maria Guajardo; individual chapters, the contributors.
